MESSAGE FROM Chairperson Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (ICT-PEIRA)

PEIRA was established in the year 2006 and initially operated as a registration authority. The mandate of PEIRA was further enhanced by the Government of Pakistan through the enactment of the Islamabad Capital Territory Private Educational Institutions (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2013. PEIRA works with private sector educational institutions (PEIs) in the ICT region up to the higher secondary school level or equivalent. PEIRA is working on ensuring uniform policies with regard to academic standards and providing guidance for private sector education development in accordance with its mandate. Keeping in view the crucial role of education in advancing towards a sustainable world, PEIRA's long-term goals are linked to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2015-2030) pledged by the Government of Pakistan. The aims and objectives stated in section 4 (e) of the ICT PEIRA Act, 2013 specifically relate to SDG goal no. 4.1, and PEIRA is devising a comprehensive strategy to address quality-related issues in private educational institutions, with a focus on inclusiveness and equity in education provision within its jurisdiction. Since its establishment, this is the first-ever Annual Report highlighting the year-long activities of the organization. The report highlights the steps being taken by PEIRA and the policy interventions introduced to play an efficient role in accordance with the mandate. PEIRA is also effectively utilizing different information and communication technologies to ensure that all functions are fully transparent and up to standard.
