PEIRA was established in year 2006 and started its operations initially as a registration authority. The mandate of PEIRA was further enhanced by Government of Pakistan through enactment of Islamabad Capital Territory Private Educational Institutions (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2013 and it is working with private sector educational institutions (PEIs) of ICT region up to higher secondary school level or equivalent. PEIRA is working on ensuring uniform policies with regards to academic standards and providing guidance for private sector education development in accordance with its mandate.
Keeping in view the crucial role of education for advancement toward a sustainable world, the long-term goals of PEIRA are linked with achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2015-2030) pledged by Government of Pakistan.The aims and objectives stated in section 4 (e) of ICT PEIRA Act, 2013 specifically relate to the goal no. 4.1 of SDGs and PEIRA is devising a comprehensive strategy to address quality related issues in private educational institutions, with a focus on inclusiveness and equity in education provision within its jurisdiction.
In this context various steps are being taken by PEIRA and policy interventions are being introduced to play efficient role as per its Act. PEIRA is effectively utilizing different information and communication technologies to keep all the functions fully transparent and up to the mark.
